We are proud to announce that Medicare awarded St. Joseph’s a 4-star quality rating based on health inspection, staffing, and quality measures.
Medicare creates the 5-star rating for nursing homes based on 3 parts: health inspections, quality measures, and staffing. Overall rating as well as ratings for each section range from 1 star to 5 stars with more stars indicating better quality.
The health inspection rating is based on the 3 most recent comprehensive (annual) inspections, and inspections due to complaints in the last 3 years. More emphasis is placed on recent inspections.
Quality measures (QM) rating combines the values on 16 QMs (a subset of the 24 QMs listed on Nursing Home Compare) to create the QM rating. QMs are derived from clinical data reported by the nursing home.
Finally, Medicare bases the staffing rating on 2 measures; the first is Registered Nurse (RN) hours per resident per day, while the second is total staffing hours per resident per day. Total staffing includes: RNs; Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs); and Certified Nurse Aids (CNAs).
This 4-star rating reinforces what we already know – there is something very special going on at St. Joseph’s!
